Rob Colley won an Exhibition in Mathematics to King's College Cambridge before deciding to follow a career in Music.
After graduating from Cambridge he went to the Royal Academy of Music to study with the late great Alex Kelly, where he was persuaded to stay for three years, winning many top prizes and obtaining his Recital Diploma.
A British Council and Austrian Government Scholarship enabled him to spend a further year in Vienna, at the Musikhochschule, where he specialised in works of the first Viennese school.

He made his London Debut at the Purcell Room in 1984, playing works by Frank Martin, Beethoven and Scriabin. He subsequently toured widely as a recitalist in Europe, Australia and the Middle East, before opting for a career in teaching.
He has taught Maths and Music at many schools, including some of the toughest inner-city schools in England. In 1998 he took voluntary redundancy from his post as Head of Music at a Sixth Form College to re-kindle his playing career. His current post as Pianist and Composer in Residence at Rugby School enables him to combine his love of music with his interest in teaching.
